OAU Appoints New Vice-Chancellor

The Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University has announced the appointment of Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire from the Faculty of Agriculture as the new Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, on Thursday, 17th March 2022, via a press release from the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun Nigeria.

 The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Owelle Oscar Idoko, said the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor takes effect from 7th June 2022.

Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, a Professor of Agricultural Economics, was among the 20 applicants who showed interest in leading Obafemi Awolowo University by applying for the Vice-Chancellorship position as advertised by the Council that will become vacant 7th June 2022.

According to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Owelle Oscar Idoko said that Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire's appointment was confirmed fair and transparent by representatives of the Federal Character Commission who witnessed the selection process.

Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire will take over from the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, whose tenure will end on 6th June 2022.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council said, "As you are aware, the post of the Vice-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, will become vacant by 7th June 2022.

In line with the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act as amended, the report of the Selection Board was considered by the Council which, after a careful and dispassionate review of the report, decided to appoint Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, a Professor of Agricultural Economics from the Faculty of Agriculture, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, as the Vice-Chancellor of the University with effect from June 7, 2022. 

The decision of the Council shall be communicated to the Visitor to the University University, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari through the Minister for Education."
